English, the English language – the language of Englishmen (official language of England and almost of all of Great Britain), citizens of USA (official language of thirty one states), one of two official languages of Ireland, Canada and Malta, official language of Australia and New Zealand. It is used as an official language in some Asian states (India, Pakistan etc.) and Africa. It is referred to the Germanic languages of the Indo-European linguistic family. The number of native speakers is about 410 million speakers (including as the second language) – about 1 billion of people (2007). One of six official and working languages in the United Nations organization.

Analytical forms of grammatical meaning expression prevail in the language.  The word order is generally strict. It is referred to the analytical type of language. More than 70% of words are borrowed. Written language is on the basis of Latin alphabet exists from VII century (in early Middle Ages were used additional letters, but now they are out of use). Traditional spelling takes considerable place in the orthography.
