The Slovenian language (slovenski jezik) is a state language of the Republic of Slovenia. Except citizens of Slovenia about two million people, it is spoken by part of Austrian, Italian and Croatian population. Together with Slovenian Diasporas in Hungary, Germany and a number of other countries, a general number of the native speakers of the Slovenian language is about 3 million people.

The Slovenian language is referred to the most non-homogenous languages of the world – there are 30 dialect variants of Slovenian, constituting of eight groups of dialects. The Slovenian language is rather similar as well as with Russian and Ukrainian.  Common Slavic roots manifest themselves. The Slovenian language is very conservative. The Slovenes prefer to create a word in their own language than borrow it from a foreign analogue.  It goes without saying that it is a good tradition to take care about integrity of a language, but some words can make the Russians smile. For example: the word "автомобиль" (car) sounds in Slovenian as "возило"(sounds like driving), "самолет" (airplane)- "летало"(sounds like flying), "компьютер"(computer) - "рачунальник", "принтер" - "тискальник", "объявление" - "обвестило", "инструкция" - "наводило", "внимание" - "позор", "гордость" (pride)- "понос"(sounds like diarrhea). In general, the Slovenes use Latin scripts with additional letters - ж, ш, ч.

• From I century B.C. to V century A.D. Slovenia was a part of Pannonia Roman province. In VI century these territories were occupied by the Avars which displaced Slavic tribes.
• Majority of citizens of Slovenia can fluently speak Italian, German and English.
• Slovenia is a paradise for speleologists, because Slovenia is famous by its karst coves. One of them is Postojna cave. It is the largest cave in the Europe.
• The menu of all Slovenian restaurants definitely contains buckwheat porridge, and black tea the Slovenes call “russki chai” (Russian tea), because traditionally the Slovens call chai (tea) the liquor from herbs or rose hips.
•  The capital of Slovenia, an ancient city Ljubljana, was built on the ruins of the Roman fortress Emona.
