Serbo-Croatian language also called Serbo-Croat or Serbian is Indo-European language acted as a standard norm on the territory of Former Yugoslavia, foundations of which were laid by Serbian educator of XIX - Karadzhich (Karadžić). Total amount of Serbo-Croatian speaking people is 17 million people.

After the breakup of Yugoslavian the following national variants of a standard language became the official languages: Serbian language in Serbia; Croatian language in Croatia and Bosnian language - one of three state languages in Bosnia. It should be noted that differences between the standard Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian languages are less notable than, for instance, the differences between two variants of Croatian language: Kajkavian and Chakavian dialects.  Official rule of the writing language in Serbia and Montenegro is Cyrillic alphabet, in Croatia – Latin alphabet and in Bosnia – both variants are permitted by law. Residents of former republic of Yugoslavia will be able to communicate easy without dictionary, if local dialectally colored vocabulary will not be used in their speech.

• The capital of Serbia – Belgrade was founded by the Celts in III century B.C.E., and then became the pier for roman marine having become the settlement Singidunum. The capital of Serbia got the name «Belgrade» (White fortress) from the Bulgarians controlling the city in IX – XI centuries.
