Macedonian language (Македонски jaзик) is the official language of Macedonia. 2 mln. of Macedonian Slavs, living in the Republic of Macedonia, speak Macedonian language; it is also used as the second language by the Turks, Gypsies, and Albanians residing on the same territory. Along with Bulgarian language Macedonian falls into the South Slavic group of the Indo-European language family.
Basic dialect groups of Macedonian language function in Western, Northern, and Eastern regions of the Republic of Macedonia. Literary Macedonian language completed its formation in the forties of the ХХ century – on the basis of central talks of the Western dialect. Distinctions between colloquial and literary Macedonian are not significant.

Written variant of Macedonian language is officially founded on two alphabets with equal rights: Latin and Cyrillic, which is more disseminated in daily use. By the way, the monastery in Ohrid city that is considered to be the place of the Slavic graphics creation is situated preeminently in Macedonia, other than in Bulgaria. Just at this place Cyril and Methodius had created Cyrillic alphabet that has later expanded further eastwards. It is possible to find that streets in Macedonia have double variants of titles, but sometimes nothing but Cyrillic alphabet is present on street signs.
